AboutSobre mí

Twenty years of teaching, research, and advocacy

Dr. Lizdelia Piñón is an education associate at the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) with more than 20 years of experience in bilingual and ESL education across K-12 and higher education. She has served as a bilingual and ESL teacher, a bilingual education department chair and teacher mentor, and a university instructor, and she provides professional development and technical assistance to schools across the country.

She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Texas Christian University, where her dissertation examined how translanguaging is implemented in real classrooms. At TCU she has taught in the College of Education and the Intensive English Program and served as an international trainer and coordinator for the Panamá Bilingüe program.

Her advocacy is personal. As the mother of triplets with disabilities, she works to make sure families of bi- and multilingual children with disabilities have the information and the voice they need — in classrooms, in hospitals, and in the halls of the Texas Legislature. In 2022 she was appointed to the State Board for Educator Certification advisory committee that shaped Texas's new bilingual special education teacher certificate, a credential she championed publicly for years.
